What is a Lash Lift?

Unlike lash extensions that enhance the length of the eyelashes, a lash lift perms your lashes into a lifted, curled state that alters their shape. Unlike the harsh chemicals used to curl your hair, the lash lift treatment is much gentler.

All lashes have a natural shape. Unfortunately, many people’s lashes grow out instead of up. A lash lift will give your lashes a fuller appearance and a curved shape that frames your eyes to make them look wider and more appealing.

How Does it Work?

Before starting the process, the technician will ensure that the lashes and eye area are free of makeup and oil. A silicone mold is placed on your closed eyelid using non-toxic glue. Next, the technician curls the upper lashes over the mold, which curves upward and outward to create a curl.

When the lashes have adhered to the mold, they are separated individually. A solution is applied between the root and middle of each lash to soften the lashes and make them more pliable. After this solution is removed, a neutralizer hardens the lashes to set the shape.

During a lash lift and tint treatment, the technician also applies a semi-permanent vegetable dye to your natural lashes to make them appear darker and thicker for an even bolder lash look. You can expect this treatment to last approximately 60 minutes.

Who Would be a Good Candidate?

If you’re looking for a natural lash appearance that enhances the eyes without the need for an eyelash curler and mascara, you should be a good candidate for a lash lift. Ideal candidates have strong and healthy lashes.

People with sparse or weak eyelashes and those with severe allergies, a skin condition such as eczema or psoriasis, or an eye condition such as cataracts or glaucoma are not good candidates for this treatment.

If your eyelashes are short, a lash lift probably won’t make much difference. In this case, you may want to consider lash extensions.

How Long Will a Lash Lift last?

A lash lift will last between four to eight weeks, depending on the growth cycle of your eyelashes. As your lashes fall out naturally, new straighter and lighter ones will emerge. 

Your lifestyle can also affect the treatment results. If you’re very active or live in a warm climate, you may find your lash lift diminishes a bit faster.

Proper aftercare during the first 24 to 48 hours after a lash lift is crucial for achieving the best results. Make sure to keep your lashes dry, and avoid sweating, swimming, and rubbing your eyes. Using too many products on your eyes after the procedure can also reduce the effects.
